Week 5 of C25K

We started on week 5 of Couch to 5K program. Has it been that long? It’s actually been longer than that – 7 weeks since we started running, but we had to do week 2 over and then week 4 twice as well. So we are up to week 5 now in our training schedule.

Before we left for the gym I forgot to check the time breakdown for our workout, which should have been as follows:

warm up walk – 5 mins

run – 5 mins

walk – 3 mins

run – 5 mins

walk – 3 mins

run – 5 mins

cool-down walk 5 mins.

So it should have been 15 minutes of running interspersed by 3 minute walks. Since we were unsure of the break-down, we did our own version as follows:

warm-up walk – 5 mins

run – 5 mins

walk – 2.5 mins

run – 5 mins

walk – 5 mins

run – 5 mins

walk – 2.5 mins

run – 5 mins

cool-down walk – 8 mins.

So, we way overdid it. By one whole 5 minute run, to be exact. After the second 5 minute run I completely felt like I was going to die – things were almost black before my eyes. My heart rate was reading in the 190s. Hence the 5 minute walk after the second run. But then I slowed the running speed a little and things went a little smoother. No, I don’t mean easy, just a little bit more bearable.  In total, according to the treadmill, I burned 430 calories and ran/walked for 2.9 miles in my 45-minute workout.

This week’s workouts are all supposed to be different. On Wednesday we are supposed to run for 8 minutes two times, which seems near to impossible, and on Friday we are supposed to run for 20 minutes without any walking, which seems completely impossible. Not sure if it will happen or not, but I guess, we’ll see how far we can push ourselves.
