I cannot believe it, but I ran for 20 minutes straight today! Do you hear it? 20 minutes! And I must say, it was no small feat! It actually was probably THE longest stretch I’ve run in about 17-18 years (since middle school). I didn’t die either! 🙂 No, I didn’t cover 2 miles in those 20 minutes, like I was supposed to, but I simply couldn’t keep up that fast of a pace. I figured it would be better to finish running at a slower speed, than to speed up and not finish it at all.
So I warmed up for 5 minutes at 4.0 m/h.
Then ran for about 5 minutes at 6.0 m/h.
Then switched down to 5.0 m/h for 5 minutes while running.
Next 5 minutes were probably the hardest, and I did them at 4.5 m/h only, but I stayed on course and kept running.
The last 5 minutes running were at 5.5 m/h.
Cool-down walk at 3.5 m/h for 5 min.
In total I burned 350 calories and ran/walked 2.4 mi.
I’m actually pretty proud of this result. In the beginning of this week I totally didn’t think I could do it at all, running for even 5 minutes seemed so hard, but I did it nonetheless.
I don’t think that I could do 20 minutes of running straight outside – it’s been incredibly hot and humid, so I would probably collapse a lot sooner. But, hey, baby steps, right?
